Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing hardware means thinking about styles, functions, finishes, grades, materials, and warranties. Here are answers to the questions we hear most.

Visiting the Showroom

Do I need an appointment to visit?

No appointment is needed — just stop by during showroom hours and browse at your own pace. If you're working on a larger project or want dedicated time with a sales consultant, call ahead and we'll make sure someone is ready for you.

What should I bring with me?

Photos of your space, rough measurements, and any samples you're trying to match (a cabinet door, a paint swatch, an existing piece of hardware) all help. Contractors and architects: bring your plans or door schedule and we can help spec the whole project.

Where are you located?

Our showroom is at 175 Bedford Street in Burlington, Massachusetts — easy to reach from Route 128/I-95 and Route 3. Visit the Showroom page for hours, directions, and a map.

Can someone help me choose, or is it self-serve?

Both. You're welcome to browse the displays on your own, but our team genuinely enjoys helping people coordinate finishes, match functions, and find hardware that fits the style of the home — that's the part we do best.

Product Questions

What is a “finish” anyways?

Basically a “finish” is just a color. When manufacturers work with metal products — generally brass, zinc, or steel in this industry — the original metal color might not be what you had in mind for your design. Manufacturers plate the base metal with another coating that gives the product a more “finished” look. Popular finishes include Lifetime Brass, Satin Nickel, Stainless Steel, and Polished Chrome, among countless others — each offering its own unique touch. Let us help you select the right finish for your project.

What are your products made of?

The majority of our products are made of solid brass, with some made of stainless steel. Mass-produced products at the “big box stores” are often zinc or hollow brass. Visit our showroom to feel the difference between the grades and qualities of materials we carry versus commonly available mass-produced products.

Is there a warranty on your products?

Of course! The warranty varies by manufacturer, but some products even carry a lifetime finish warranty. Visit our showroom and discuss your needs with a sales consultant — we'd be happy to provide the manufacturer's warranty information for the products you are interested in.

Do you carry more than door hardware?

Much more. We carry cabinet hardware (pulls, knobs, hinges), bathroom hardware and accessories, window hardware, Tectus concealed hinges, barn and sliding door systems, rolling library ladders, and kitchen accessories — all on display in the showroom.

Can you match the finish on my existing hardware?

Often, yes. Bring in a piece of the existing hardware — or a good photo — and we'll show you the closest matches across our manufacturers. Finish names vary between brands, so a real-world comparison beats a spec sheet every time.

Do you have options for older or period-style homes?

Yes — many of our manufacturers offer traditional and period-appropriate styles, from classic brass knobs to vintage-inspired entry sets. New England has no shortage of older homes, and we're happy to help outfit them.

Can you help with technical details like handing, backset, and door prep?

Absolutely — that's everyday work for our team. Bring your door measurements, door thickness, and photos of the existing prep if you're replacing hardware, and we'll spec products that fit correctly the first time.

Do you sell shower doors or glass enclosures?

That's our partner company! For custom shower doors, mirrors, and glass services, visit Abbey Glass — or shop bath hardware online anytime.

Orders & Customer Support

How long does it take to receive my order?

Lead time varies with the products and manufacturers you select. We stock a limited selection of the most commonly purchased items and can sometimes expedite “quick ship” items overnight. In general, most special orders are ready for pickup in 6–8 weeks, though made-to-order and one-of-a-kind items can take longer. Please order with enough lead time for your project.

What is your return policy?

In-stock items may be returned within 30 days of purchase in new, resalable condition. Damaged or otherwise unsellable items may incur a 15–30% restocking fee. Due to their nature, we cannot accept returns on special orders (made-to-order, custom, one-of-a-kind, etc.).

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash. Special orders require a 100% deposit to place the order. Contractors wishing to apply for credit terms can speak to a sales associate in the showroom for a credit application.

I saw something on a brand's website that's not in the showroom — can you get it?

Almost certainly. The showroom displays a curated selection, but we can special-order nearly anything our manufacturers make — different sizes, finishes, functions, or entire product lines. Bring us the brand and item number (or a photo) and we'll get you pricing and lead time.

Do you ship orders, or is it pickup only?

Most customers pick up in the showroom, but shipping can be arranged for many orders. Ask a sales consultant about options when you place your order.

Can I get a price estimate before coming in?

Pricing depends on the manufacturer, product, finish, and quantity — the same item can span a wide range. Call us with the brand and item you're considering, or stop by the showroom, and we'll give you real numbers rather than guesswork.

Do you install the hardware you sell?

We can arrange it. We're primarily a supply showroom, but installation can be arranged for customers who need it — and for those using their own contractor or locksmith, we make sure every order is correct and complete with the details your installer will need.

Trade & Commercial

Do you offer contractor or trade pricing?

Yes — we work with contractors, builders, architects, and designers every day and offer exclusive trade pricing on qualifying orders. Set up an account with us and ask about trade discounts on your next project.

Can you help put together a hardware schedule for my project?

That's one of our favorite things to do. Bring your door schedule or plans and we'll spec every opening — passage, privacy, entry, sliding, barn doors — with coordinated finishes and functions across the whole project.

Can contractors get credit terms?

Yes. Contractors can apply for credit terms — speak to a sales associate in the showroom for a credit application.

Do you work on commercial and hospitality projects?

We do — from office build-outs to hospitality and multi-unit residential work. Our team can assist with large-scale ordering, product compliance questions, and finish coordination across an entire property.
